I will take a good look at those gaskets and see if they had shrunk since last we replaced the seals when I polish her again this spring (I do it only once every 3 yrs or so). Luckily she will only see rain if we are out camping and it rains - we had the opportunity to build her a barn (its really a 3rd car garage) last fall, yes she is one little spoiled Airstream! PS Good luck on your garden this year! Im gonna try artichokes!Jezibelshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16008380452650873494noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265639594610082249.post-64158027266617469112012-03-04T03:19:49.330-08:002012-03-04T03:19:49.330-08:00Jez, I think that your seal is a square. I am not...Jez, I think that your seal is a square. I am not 100% sure about this, but all the 1966 trailers that have been through here have had square. You have a window that went into production before it was fully tested. The main issue your window has is that the frame, seal, and window must all seat perfectly in the upper corners or it will leak. This means that once you do the new seals, you have about 5 years before the seal shrinks down and is no longer seating correctly. What happens 99% of the time is that once it leaks, caulk is applied to the corner, followed by more and more. Twice now, leaks have been stopped just by removing the caulk. How those three planes meet is very very important. Open the window, remove the seal on one side and close it. You will see exactly how the seal works and where it has failed. It is all about the first 2" on your style of window. Hope this was helpful. You can call me anytime and talk Airstreams. I might however start picking your brain about my garden...Frank Yensanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12632216121085446978noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265639594610082249.post-68291809601912592692012-03-03T20:16:27.492-08:002012-03-03T20:16:27.492-08:00Frank, What seal do I use on my 66 Tradewind? The new valve is 3.75 on center. Too far to align but too close to reuse. The axis of the square was shifted 3 degrees so the new bolts clear the old ones. The center hole is 1 .75. The original holes were countersunk and tapped. The new holes were just tapped for 1/4 -20 bolts. A drill press is very important for you want all the holes and threads to line up perfectly.Frank Yensanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12632216121085446978noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265639594610082249.post-90177663189321670172012-02-17T19:07:45.746-08:002012-02-17T19:07:45.746-08:00Hi Frank, great update!
